Sir John Major Opens new Hunts FA headquarters
The former Prime Minister did the honours in front of gathered dignitaries at Ambury House, the half-a-million pound base in the Ermine Business Park, on Monday lunchtime.
It is not the first time Sir John has been on hand to carry out such duties. He also opened the Association’s previous base at Cromwell Chambers in 1999 which was sold for private development to fund the move to larger and more modern premises.
The new site, which includes conference and function rooms, offices and training facilities, has been operational since the beginning of February.
Hunts FA chairman Maurice Armstrong said: “Cromwell Chambers was our home for more than 15 years, but it reached a point where we had simply outgrown it.
“Back in 1999 we had only two full-time staff and a turnover of £52,000. We now have five full-time staff, four part-time workers and countless volunteers with a turnover of approximately £300,000.
“The feedback we receive from those who attend Ambury House for football business has been excellent.
“We look forward to spending many years at a base which enables us to continue the development of the game in Huntingdonshire.”
Addressing those gathered for the Ambury House unveiling, Sir John said: “I recall opening Cromwell Chambers with great affection – not least because we were all a lot younger then!
“I also congratulate all those who have been involved in bringing about the move to this new building.
“The substantial interest and involvement in sport has always struck me about this area and that continues to be the case.”
